There’s an organization called the Multiversal Worldcrosser Agency. It’s comprised of worldcrossers, which are individuals that traverse across different universes. The Agency will record and log information on universes, with all these different departments and an executive board, and all that. I won’t get into that here though- it takes a while to explain and I haven’t made all the details clear yet... but anyway, yeah. It’s run by worldcrossers, and most (not all, some still need to take care of logistics and tech and all that) are field agents, who actively are out there in different universes, collecting data.

Many, many centuries before the timeline of WCS starts, the Multiversal Worldcrosser Agency has just been created by some humans from the planet Earth (the same one we’re from!), and the universe they’re in (called World Alpha, aka the first world) is collapsing. This is a time that’s far, far more advanced than what we have in the present. With time running out, they devise technology that will allow them to traverse through universal fabric, which is the space separating universes from each other. I made up a lot of science stuff that’s not actually realistic, I literally made all this shit up- but yeah, there’s a lot of “science” surrounding all this that I will not get into. It’s too complicated. But basically, they make the technology that allows people to travel between universes. After hand-selecting some of the brightest individuals from what’s left of the human species, which will become the very first generation of worldcrossers, they send them out (with all the technology and information they managed to record of the human race) to find another habitable universe.

Sullivan, aka Ivan, is one of those who were sent out. Though, not willingly; he was only convinced to do so after they brought his little sister, Vivian (aka Vivi) into the equation, saying that by doing this for them, he’d be providing a future for his sister. So he agrees.

After arriving at his target universe (which I call World Beta, aka the second universe), he finds that it’s perfectly habitable and starts collecting as much information as he can. There, he meets an intelligent species that inhabits the planet that he happened to arrive on.

He ends up figuring some way to communicate with them, all that, makes friends and everything. Yeah.

Eventually, after the month of time he was given to collect data has passed, he goes back to World Alpha, and lets them know that, like, “hey I found this universe, it’s habitable, species there is friendly, etc etc” and then goes back to World Beta to let the species on there know. However, when what’s left of the Agency arrives on World Beta, it’s several weeks ahead of schedule and they’re... quite out of order.

What happened was that World Alpha had collapsed nearly entirely, much earlier than planned. The survivors… they left Vivi behind.

Ivan goes absolutely ballistic and (despite them trying to stop him) goes back to World Alpha, runs back to the dorm he and Vivi had lived in. Most of it is gone, he finds her hairclip left behind, before the room around him collapses too.

He manages to… well at least, part of him manages to travel back to World Beta. Part of him. He died. Yep.

They used his DNA in cloning an individual (it’s part of their reproductive technology and all that) and so he’s considered one of the ancestors of those that are in the Agency. Except, when they tell his story, they left Vivi out of it. He’s one of the most famous worldcrossers, though. Yeah.

main story

</aside>

The MC and Lucifer grow up on World Beta as childhood friends. They’ve been together, like, forever. Were neighbors as children, went to school together, went through training and internship together to become worldcrossers. A few years into their careers as promising young worldcrossers in the Agency, a huge anniversary celebration takes place to celebrate the MWA’s five hundredth birthday. Yeah. They’re old.

Well, two years before that, Lucifer is transferred from World Beta as part of a special exchange program as the assistant of finds some great old secret about the Agency. It involves a very particular transmitter, with a very particular personality embedded within.

On the first day of the anniversary celebration, Lucifer goes on… a murder spree. The executive board of the Agency are the first to go. To the rest, he offers them a choice: either join him, or they can die.

Well, a vast majority of the Agency dies. A portion of the ones left over join him. The rest, those who could get out, they ran. Warped to some different universe, far, far away from World Beta.

On that day, Lucifer… confesses to Lumi. Asks her to stay with him, help him guide the “new” Agency. She uh… well she rejects him and then runs, but not before stealing the special transmitter from him.
